Over the spring and summer of this year we have invited people to grow sunflowers in memory of those who have lost their lives seeking refuge.
These last sunflowers of the season are sadly for a family who only this week died while trying to reach safety in the UK.

"Instead of accepting that there is a real need to ensure that people can get to the UK, the government ...pursues ever-more draconian proposals like illegal pushbacks at sea and even higher fences." our CEO @minnierahman
We need safe routes now.

Heart-breaking news. How many tragedies like this must we see before the Government fundamentally changes its approach by committing to an ambitious expansion of safe routes for those men, women and children in desperate need of protection?

Wow such a wonderful evening! Thanks so much Bearwood (and beyond) for coming along to our Procession Of Light and showing that refugees are welcome here. And thanks to speakers @CllrBostan, Nicky Hincliff and Lucy from @Brushstrokes66 and all our volunteers.
You could make your own lantern for our Procession Of Light 6pm, 9th October at Warley Woods.
Here are a couple of ideas for bear lanterns.

54 people, including 6 women, 21 unaccompanied minors and one baby, have been rescued by MSF teams later today. "Our sufferings in Libya are over", they screamed when the #GeoBarents approached their boat.
Join us 9 October for our Procession Of Light 6pm at Warley Woods.
We are very happy to be able to hold this event again and look forward to the community of Bearwood coming together in solidarity with refugees promoting messages of welcome, hope and support.

The wait is over. It's #WorldRefugeeDay!
Fighting a pandemic or helping communities, refugees have been there every step of the way.
Let's show up for them today and everyday. Because together, we can achieve anything.
'There are times in our lives when we need someone to walk with us' @Diyabutt is a visual artist & one of the #RefugeeWeek2021 ambassadors. It's been such a privilege to work with them this year to tell their stories & hear their views on the theme #WeCannotWalkAlone@D6culture
'Each one of us has a role to shift the narratives about refugees & other marginalised groups, to build bridges of hope not walls, to welcome & open doors.'
Wise words from Basma one of our amazing #RefugeeWeek2021 ambassadors! #WeCannotWalkAlone
