In a vegan food system, 1kg of human food would also provide 3-5 kg of non-edible biomass. We can let that rot, recycle it very inefficiently, ferment it as biogas, or... feed it to animals & obtain highly nutritious food.

Veg and fruit growers will go out of business if growers can’t get a fair price in the supermarket - good to see the IFA report from Jim Power on the news calling for a ban on below cost selling .. meanwhile in the ad break supermarkets keep banging the drum on low food prices

White clover modified to increase condensed tannins in the leaves has been found to reduce methane production by 19% in an experiment simulating a cow's digestion in the lab. Ammonia production reduced by 60%. Read the recently published research at:

Isn't it weird how improving energy efficiency is good but we should dismiss improving agricultural efficiency? What if cheaper homes to heat means people just build bigger houses? If it's government money why can't we all walk into these people's homes cos we basically own them?
Just in case anyone doesn't get it, if these arguments sound stupid, good. They sound fairly stupid to the farming community when they're applied to us too...I didn't even suggest discouraging lending to builders to stop them building new houses...
Excellent discussion on the role and potential of MSS by @SMARTSWARD1 PI Dr. Helen Sheridan. Helen's vision was the driving force behind our previous and current MSS research 👏#womeninSTEM
In this week's newsletter the @TeagascGrass10 team introduce a new section, The Clover Reporter, with weekly reports and videos from farmers. Also map your farm with @PastureBase, grow grass with less chemical N, grass budgeting and the regular items here https://t.co/9OMhHByMJg
Some researchers are just on a different level. Philippe Faverdin retires this week after a brilliant career @INRAE_Intl He worked with @teagasc on many projects which benefited Irish farming. He was a generous mentor and role model. His last review on dairy & beef is just out👇
The popularity 'carbon-offsetting' not going to last, imo.
Without doubt land will be important in sequestering carbon, but there is a risk that it becomes perceived as THE solution, rather than the actual solution -eliminating fossil fuel usage.
