Police make multiple arrests in ‘largest gold theft in Canadian history’ 🇨🇦

Last year, a theft occurred at a Toronto Pearson International Airport facility, orchestrated by a "well-organized group of criminals," according to Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.

The stolen items included 6,600 gold bars weighing 400kg (882 pounds) and 2.5 million Canadian dollars ($1.8m) in foreign bank notes, originating from a Swiss refinery, taken from an Air Canada facility on April 17, 2023.

Police have identified nine suspects in the heist, detailing the charges they face. While five suspects were arrested in Canada and released on bail awaiting trial, one suspect, hailing from Brampton, Ontario, was apprehended in Pennsylvania with numerous illegal firearms and remains in U.S. custody. Canada-wide arrest warrants have been issued for the remaining three suspects.
