@monkeydmeme It does feel like Big Mom was a character that as time went on Oda didn’t know how to handle.
It’s a shame too because I much prefer luffy’s dynamic with Big Mom over Kaido and thought it’d be great if we got to see Luffy as a yonko 1v1 another yonko
@pointfivesix To be frank overall the anime has proven to be superior to the source material. The fact that Uryu is actually relevant and Yhwach is threatening are some of the best things we got. Sprinkle on top stuff like Ukitake having a resolution? Its nice even with some of the faults.
@GunnerDobbins I agree, I think Harold is a wonderful addition to the story. His relationships with Ida and Loki, how his story is a cautionary tale of how traditions aren't all bad and how rolling down for others in the pursuit of a "good" cause doesn't always end up well.
@ryoto_dawn1 that's up to the author to figure out, Kubo didn't have to write it that Gerard is like this.
Frankly speaking the Gerard fight overall is hollow with very meaningful moments and just spectacle. There's no proper conclusion and its the worst of the royal guard fights.
@SunSwordKing that said the anime has the benefit of 10 years of hindsight and the story becomes more coherent as a result with a lot of nice additional moments added in. Characters like Uryu and Yhwach the anime is their definitive form and its hard to argue otherwise.
I'd rec the anime.
@SunSwordKing the tybw manga main benefit is kubo's art and how certain moments have more chance to breath. For instance one character has a powerup and in the manga its an entire chapter to see it while the anime breezes it by in three minutes so you lose some of that impact.
@Hollow_Monocle0 Im mixed. The new additions have been great, the fact that Gerard and Lillie's fate are the same as the manga is extremely disappointing
feel very mixed on the new episode. The fact that the Gerard and Lillie stuff was ultimately pointless feels like a stab in the gut since they were some of the stuff people wanted to change.
On the other hand Uryu, the arrancars, and that fight? Great.
@jevbut_inc This is probably one of if not the best things the anime has done, actually making Uryu relevant.
Sometimes I wish the original anime ended at the arrancar arc so they could have done the same justice for Chad and the fullbringers.
