@karrycrow I've not seen this shape in pilgrim badges. To me they are generally more wounds of Christ in form. It a difficult stone to interpret. My memory of this stone is there was little context with the find? Could it have been a film/tv prop? Or was there a castle or church?
@karrycrow I'm not sure about this. The vulva seems very enhanced. Not very common on Medieval sheelas that show them. You do see this form in replicas (see the movie Men) a modern interpretation.
You can tell a man researched this "The phallus is 16cm long but may have shrunk with age" we've all heard that excuse @orlapeach@SexSiopa this is one for ye https://t.co/eawQViu58X
@cmcloughlin1 We have heard there is a new Sheela, and have logged back into Twitter say thanks now we need to update our maps. Honestly, this is a major find. There is a major gap in the record in the SE. A missing/possible is all we have as well as two debunked
Join members of Waterford Archaeological & Historical Society @WfdHistSty on Sept 30 to hear about Gary Dempsey talk about @DH_Age's research into Sheela-na-Gigs. Talk is on in St Patrick's Gateway Centre #Waterford
Updating the survey map showing the location of Irish Sheela & Exhibitionist figures we have recorded / have to record ahead of our talk (@DH_Age + @orlapeach) to the @WfdHistSty on September 30th. Orange are missing, Green Modern, and !+? are suggested carvings
there is still time to get your votes for Roscommon in. The home of 7 sheela-na-gigs, Roscommon, Rindoon and Ballintober & Athlone, Castles (the border is in the river), an iron age idol, myths, queens and kings. It's irelands real hidden heartland
Finally getting around to uploading the latest Sheela's to the collection - This example is from Killaloe beside a well near @StFlannansCath
- It's a shame her head is gone, as it hinders comparison to other carvings from Cos. Clare and Tipperary https://t.co/5Tho5640SM
