They have two of the top five scorers of this World Cup, Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, both world class. A dynamic midfielder in Elliot Anderson bought for £116m who belied his relative youth to impress at his first senior tournament.

Another £100m+ midfielder in Declan Rice, who fought valiantly even when it looked like a brief illness and a long, intense season caught up with him. Saka, Rogers and some of the defenders like the hugely promising O’Reilly. Good players.  A possession man in Kobbie Mainoo kicking his polished heels on the bench. Talents left behind like Wharton, Palmer, Foden, Alexander-Arnold, Scott and Gibbs-White. More coming through like Dowman. England have the players.
