Recruitment is only part of the equation. Keeping great healthcare professionals in rural communities matters, too.

Nicole Breton, Network Coordinator for Maine and 3RNET Board Member, shares why retention deserves just as much attention as recruitment when building a strong rural healthcare workforce.

RURAL WORKFORCE INSIGHTS 💡

When it comes to rural recruitment, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach.

We asked Ann Cranford, 3RNET Board President and Tennessee Network Coordinator, what advice she would give to someone new to rural recruitment.

What a beautiful week in North Carolina with the best network around. 💙

The 2026 3RNET Annual Conference brought together incredible people from across the country for conversations about rural health, workforce, recruitment, retention, innovation, and the work happening in communities every day.

This week was a reminder of just how special the 3RNET network really is.

A huge thank you to the North Carolina Office of Rural Health for the way they showed up throughout the week and helped us create such a meaningful experience for our network.

We were also incredibly honored to have the Town of Cary proclaim August 25, 2026, as 3RNET Day. It was a pretty special way to celebrate 30+ years of 3RNET!

To everyone who joined us, presented, shared ideas, asked questions, made connections, and made this week what it was: thank you.

North Carolina, you were good to us. 💙

Next stop: Ohio. We can't wait to see you in 2027!

It’s officially 3RNET Day in Cary, North Carolina! 💙💚

This morning at the 2026 3RNET Annual Conference, Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht officially proclaimed August 25, 2026 as 3RNET Day in recognition of 3RNET’s work to strengthen healthcare recruitment, retention, and access to care in rural and underserved communities.

For more than 30 years, our work has been powered by people across the country who believe rural and underserved communities deserve access to a strong healthcare workforce. To have that mission recognized while so many members of the 3RNET Network are gathered together in Cary makes today especially meaningful.

Thank you to Mayor Weinbrecht and @@caryncgov for this recognition and for welcoming the 3RNET Network to North Carolina.

Happy 3RNET Day! 🎉

What happens between posting a healthcare opportunity and strengthening a community?

A lot of connections. 💙💚

Our 2024–2025 Annual Report gives us a closer look at how healthcare professionals and employers connected through 3RNET over the past year.

📍 3,642 healthcare professional placements
🤝 421,000+ candidate referrals
🩺 13,018 jobs posted
👥 3,690 new job seeker registrations

Each step represents people working toward the same goal: connecting healthcare professionals with communities that need them.

And behind those numbers are our Network Coordinators, organizational members, employers, partners, and healthcare professionals working together across the country.

There’s much more to the story in our 2024–2025 Annual Report. We’ll continue sharing what the numbers tell us about rural and underserved healthcare workforce efforts.

Today, on National Nonprofit Day, we’re reflecting on something that has always been at the heart of 3RNET: our mission. 💙💚

For more than 30 years, that mission has brought together people and partners across the country with a shared commitment to helping rural and underserved communities thrive.

In this video, our Executive Director, Mike Shimmens, reflects on why 3RNET is proud to be a nonprofit and why the relationships throughout our network continue to be the bedrock of what we do.

As we prepare to bring so many members of that network together at our Annual Conference next week, we’re especially grateful for the people who believe in this work and help carry our mission forward every day.

Happy National Nonprofit Day!

Leading up to last year's 3RNET Annual Conference, we refreshed our internal values- the principles that guide our work every day. As we prepare for the 2026 Annual Conference, we're taking one last look at the values that continue to shape our organization.

In this video, Dr. Dave Schmitz, Chair of the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences Department of Family & Community Medicine and 3RNET Senior Research Advisor, shares the value that resonates most with him: 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲.

For Dr. Schmitz, this value reflects the importance of staying curious, embracing new ideas, and continually finding better ways to strengthen the healthcare workforce in rural and underserved communities. 💙💚
