BRC-20 was introduced in March 2023 by an anonymous developer known as Domo.

📓 It leverages Bitcoin’s Taproot upgrade, which enabled ordinal inscriptions – a crucial component for making this new kind of tokens work.

BRC-20 tokens use JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) ordinals inscriptions to:
• Initiate token contracts (though these are still simplistic, lacking full smart contract functionality).
• Create new tokens.
• Transfer tokens between addresses

@thethingsguy @Macr0Mark @OrdiSat_io @UnilayerNetwork @Multibit_Bridge @unisat_wallet @MagicEden ERC-20 (Ethereum) uses smart contracts for fungible tokens. BRC-20 (Bitcoin) uses inscriptions for SEMI-fungible tokens with data in JSON.

This data can be text, images, videos, etc.

It is the only way for BTC to add support for NFTs and other tokens...

Telling the Tales post #dencun upgrade.

As expected the L2 ecosystem felt the BLOB ripple effect.

According to data from @Tokenterminal, There has been a massive influx in Assets bridged to L2s.

We hope to see them ship more upgrades as stated in their roadmap.
