The fact that Distrobox exists still feels illegal.
It basically breaks one of Linux’s biggest limitations.
You can run almost ANY Linux distro…
inside your current distro…
with near-native performance.
No VM overhead.
No dual booting.
No complicated setup.
Distrobox lets you:
• run full distros in containers
• launch GUI apps directly on your desktop
• share GPU + audio + USB devices
• integrate Wayland/X11 seamlessly
• export apps to your app launcher
• create disposable dev environments instantly
Examples:
• Arch inside Debian
• Fedora inside Ubuntu
• Ubuntu inside SteamOS
• bleeding-edge Mesa on stable systems
And because it uses Podman/Docker underneath…
it’s ridiculously fast.
Linux power users quietly turned containers into an entire operating system layer.
Is it possible to make a full-time living from indie games today? Absolutely! BUT only IF you have the right mix of experience, solid marketing skills, and keep your costs realistic.
Back in 2013 2020 when all I was doing was making games (before I ever started my YouTube channel), my Steam games alone brought in over $1M, which definitely allowed me to make a living.
Part of the secret for my survivability was just my cost of living. Here in Portugal my goal was $2000 per month which allowed me to have a pretty nice life. With that a one year game just needs to make $24k to make a profit, whereas if I were living in San Francisco and needed $10k per month just to survive then that same game would need $120k to make a profit, that's a LOT more difficult.
The other secret is simply experience. My first Steam game was actually my 40th game! I made Flash Games for 5 years until I gathered enough experience and skill to be able to make a living from it. It did not happen overnight.
And of course making games as a hobby just for fun is always a valid goal. It's up to you to decide if you're making this as a job or as a hobby.
I wish you the best of luck in your game dev journey!

Working on a new 3D pack of #gameassets which will cover a wide range of gaming activities like mining, farming, housing, sports and more.
My personal goal is to make it a 400× model pack, my largest ever. And still completely free of course!
Game development is the most demanding and exciting game I’ve ever played.
9 years progressing the Soulash series, and there’s still so much ahead. Beats every MMO I've tried.
10 years as a programmer. Spent a year on my own game after work — exhausting, slow progress. So I quit. Going full-time indie. Savings for 3-4 years, aiming for 3-4 games. Waited too long. Time to go all in.

Someone built a fully open-source mocap system that works with any camera.
It's called FreeMoCap, a markerless 3d tracking system that runs on ordinary webcams.
→ 500+ body, hand, and face landmarks per frame
→ exports to Blender, Unity, Unreal
→ runs on a normal laptop
100% Open Source. 4.6k stars on GitHub.
Valve's new Steam Controller sold out minutes after its launch, so now you'll have to wait or buy one from a reseller for $250.
Did you manage to get one?: https://t.co/WWuh7Oxy64
Blender has taken a principled stance and is sacrificing future donations from Anthropic to reaffirms their stance that they are supportive of artists and creators
This is very admirable and we encourage all of you to donate to Blender to show your support and appreciation 🫖
Blender is changing the funds that they received from Anthropic as a singular donation instead of a Development Fund.
They say they don’t currently have any plans for generative AI to be integrated into Blender
“Blender is a tool for artists and creators, it’s made by humans for humans.”
100% open source. Gratis para siempreee.

Brave just added a feature people have wanted for YEARS.
Containers.
And most users don’t realize how powerful this is.
Here’s why it changes how you browse 👇
Destroying the @InternetArchive's @WayBackMachine would be the equivalent of the burning of the Library of Alexandria - one of the worst losses of knowledge in history.
Media giants are now threatening to do this.
We can't let this happen.
Pass it on.
