D’Angelo, Richard Roundtree, and Chadwick Boseman are among the Black men we’ve lost to gastrointestinal cancers such as colon and pancreatic cancer. These diseases are taking too many of our icons. Please get regular screenings 🥺🙏🏾
D’Angelo’s spirit moved through rhythm.
It taught me presence.
Taught me how sacred a voice could be.
His music will always be a part of my ritual, my peace, my practice.
Thank you 🕊️
D’Angelo became an angel.
When I reconnected with my spirituality, his music was the first I conjured to.
As a child, he was the first artist I ever heard. As an adult, his melodies found me every time I needed peace, power, or protection.
His music felt like spellwork🧵
I don’t usually feel this way about artists.
But I always hoped to see him live, maybe even make music with him one day. Just a dream.
He didn’t know me.
But I knew the version of myself I became every time his voice hit a candlelit room.
D'Angelo wasn't a soul of many words, because he seemed to believe his music would speak best for him. And it will. Forever for a multitude of generations and to comfort anyone who misses his soothing tone or decadent energy.
This moment is how I choose to remember him. Joyfully and excitedly playing his guitar and you can see in his face, that it was where he was most at home.
You can see his full interview in the documentary 'Finding the Funk' and see what made his soul light up. And thank you to D'Angelo for lighting up our spirits with his talent and may his sound and love continue to comfort his loved ones during such a significant loss.
Hoodoo Tip: Psalms 74:16-17. That’s the gratitude prayer. @witchdctralex said say that 3 times in the morning every morning, helps me get through the day.
“The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon. It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.”
The Aries solar eclipse is here and she is LOUD! 🧵
This eclipse is a special one because it occurs the day before Neptune enters Aries for the first time since the 1800s.
The first New Moon of 2025 is peaking tomorrow {Wednesday} at 7:35am EST and it’s making space for us to meditate on our relationship to community. We’re living amidst a global fascist takeover, so it’s never been more important to seek out communal spaces, (both online and in real-life), that reflect the values we hold dear.
Consider this:
The last New Moon of 2024 is happening today and it’s a New Moon in Capricorn that’ll be peaking at 5:26pm ET. As 2025 approaches, this lunation is making space for us to both reflect on the year that’s finishing and to also be intentional about what we want to build in the new year.
