When I moved to Canada, I did a one year program that cost me about N20m when converted. I had no plans on doing a second program that would have guaranteed me 3 year of Post Graduate Work Permit.
I was limited to just one year, after which the only option was to come back to Nigeria and continue my life where I stopped.
Even at that, I didn't want to just "waste" my Work Permit doing menial jobs, I wanted to do a job in my Marketing and Communications field. I had all the experience from Nigeria in my fields, but I was met with the reality of Canadian Work experience demands at every job I had applied for.
I started applying for jobs and doing interviews from my second semester, so I put in the work. Though I wasn't getting and job, I was getting familiarized with Interview routines and also sharpening my oratory skills to be more audible.
Of course, I was always praying daily for a job. Some rejections were because I was still on a study permit, so I couldn't do full time. Others were because; though I aced interviews, some to the second stage, I fell short when it was time to choose a candidate, because I had no Canadian experience, and others did.
Fast forward to when it was about 2 weeks to the end of my Study permit, my prayer changed. The mode of it, the specificity of it and all.
I put a time line to the prayer. My study permit was to expire on the 31st of March, 2023. So I told God, I want a full time job in my field before the 31st of March, 2023.
A job I had done two interviews, the last one being in February, 2023; reached out to me on the 30th of March, a day to the end of my Study Permit, telling me I had been employed.
For the first time in a very long time, I believed again, and I held on to that miracle, using it as a reminder for God at every step of the way I went, till I got my PR.
not a single semester below a first class. even when i was fighting for my life!!!
had only 2 Cs all through and both were mistakes i didn’t have energy to fight against.
i have 2 heads like mad, don’t play with me!
