Courts have different responsibilities. Our court handles felony criminal cases, major civil lawsuits, family law matters, and lower court appeals. The 36th District Court handles traffic tickets, misdemeanors, landlord-tenant disputes, and small claims in Detroit.
The Wayne County Clerk’s Office plays a vital role in supporting the work of the Third Judicial Circuit Court of Michigan. As the keeper of the Court’s records, the Clerk’s Office is responsible for maintaining case files, managing court documents, and ensuring records.

Third Circuit Court of Michigan has renamed its Jury Assembly Room at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in honor of Judge Mary Beth Kelly. Judge Kelly is an accomplished jurist, former Michigan Supreme Court Justice, and the first woman to serve as Chief Judge of our court.
