In Festus, Missouri, a town of about 14,000 people, the city council quietly approved a $6 billion Ai data center to be built on 360 acres just north of Highway 67.

Residents say they were never properly heard. Meetings were held in private. Documents were released too late. A week after the approval, the town held a regular election. Voter turnout jumped 129 percent.

Every single council member who had voted yes lost in a landslide. A 70-year-old first-time candidate beat an 8-year incumbent by 40 percentage points.

Now a recall petition is circulating to remove the mayor as well. The lawsuit against the city is already filed.

and now the refund goes to THEM?

the corporations who used the tariffs as an excuse to raise prices even higher than the tariff itself and pocket the difference

the american people funded the tariffs.

the corporations profited off the tariffs.

and now the corporations get a refund on money they never spent in the first place
and nobody in washington thinks the people who actually paid should get the money back.

My ex told me on our third date that the dog sleeps outside or he's gone. I looked at Roxy curled up on my lap and then I looked at him and I said okay, nice knowing you. He called me crazy, said I'd die alone choosing a chihuahua over a man. My mom agreed with him, kept sending me articles about women who end up bitter and lonely because their standards are too high.
But here's the thing. Roxy was there when I lost my job and cried for three days straight. Roxy was there when my dad got sick and I couldn't sleep. Roxy never once made me feel like I was too much or not enough. So yeah, maybe my standards are high. Maybe wanting someone who loves all of me including my seven pound furry soulmate is asking too much.
I stopped dating for almost a year after that. Started going to this little coffee shop down the street just to get out of the house, always brought Roxy with me because they allow dogs on the patio. One morning this guy sits down at the next table and immediately starts talking to her, not to me, to her. Asking her name, letting her sniff his hand, telling her she's beautiful.
Second date he showed up with this. Turns out he makes custom pet beds from old furniture and sells them through his shop , transforms beat up end tables and dressers into these gorgeous little beds. He saw my scratched up side table when he picked me up and asked if he could turn it into something for Roxy.
Now she sleeps in this hunter green bed with a polka dot cushion right next to my chair every night. He added those little butterfly drawer pulls because I mentioned once that I loved butterflies. He just started teaching me how to refinish furniture too, says we could open a shop together if I wanted.
My mom asked when I'm bringing him to dinner. I said when she apologizes for telling me I was crazy. Roxy approved him first, that's all the validation I ever needed.
