i recommend reading this, because you will soon see almost every single intellectually-driven profession write similar letters
i definitely have sympathy for them, realizing that we may soon lose many of the driving reasons which pushed humans to great intellectual and productive heights, but also, "ain't nothing stopping this train"
entire professions must rapidly retool and *keep* retooling around the new reality
human activities (intellectual or otherwise) which create no marginal value over what the machines can do may not continue to exist. and where they do continue to exist, a lot of that may be due to "entertainment" value- not because it offers a superior product (e.g., craft and cottage goods, human art and performances, etc.)
it is possible and likely that entire professions die fairly quickly. and it is possible that our entire civilization becomes collectively stupider and atrophies core capabilities which have gotten us to this point because we cease to intellectually struggle in the same way that we have sine the dawn of civilization
so our civilization becomes more capable, but each individual becomes less competent
not unlike how most people could not hunt and kill a wild animal today using a spear, even though this was an essential survival skill for eons
there is a danger here, because if we atrophy individual capabilities too quickly, and we can no longer maintain our society without the machines, and the machines fail and no one is left who is smart enough to create or maintain them, then we enter a kind of dark age. people assume that kind of thing would take hundreds of years to manifest, but it can happen in 1-2 generations (20-40 years)
this is the same reason why so many skilled trades disappeared after the fall of the Roman Empire. the economic impetus to continue them disappeared, and so people stopped doing them, and skill which was passed from master to apprentice stopped being passed and was forgotten
so in this transition, i do believe we need to think of the human in a more intimate way. how to define that, i do not know, but i do know it cannot be done by slowing the development of the technology and what it is capable of

Sadly, the biggest consequence of this is my life’s work is beginning to feel too simple (for me at least.) And collectively, I know my colleagues are beginning to feel uncomfortable with this fact too.

“If the world was run by women, we’d all live in a better world. If we just listened to them and let them takeover, it would be an easier world”
