@RexieSquad@televisionaryZW@NostalgiaFolder As your screenshot states, the median worker has more purchasing power now than 50 years ago. Growth has been slower than in the years before, certainly, but wages have not gone backwards.
@formerlymeta@Colin61455279@shitpost9000@Jbn3ex In the very first edition, the ring is table stakes for the riddle game and Gollum happily hands it over, no bad blood. You can see why this wouldn't make too much sense given the events of LOTR haha
@formerlymeta@Colin61455279@shitpost9000@Jbn3ex This depends on the version of the book, Tolkien retconned The Hobbit multiple times. In the first edition, Gollum is actually pretty chill and has over the ring willingly; in the second, he gets angry after handing it over. You're right w.r.t the third.
@Colin61455279@shitpost9000@Jbn3ex The riddle game is treated as absolutely holy in The Hobbit, Gollum is basically forced to give Bilbo the ring and then immediately starts planning to kill Bilbo and get it back.
Ok wow this is huge! Time to lock in

@ashlander0609@SarkerNotParker@atlanticesque Yep completely agreed, if a single person is getting full on the test it defeats the entire point. Definitely a balance to be struck though, don’t want to become like India or China for admissions.
@ashlander0609@SarkerNotParker@atlanticesque Your numbers are off, only ~1000 get 1600 a year. If you include 36s on the ACT (much easier imo) that's 3000 more, still nowhere near enough to fill the Ivy League.
@PhazonGuzzler@rowanfornow What does "just stop" mean though? Even if Bezos or Zuck retired early on they still would've become billionaires unless their companies went bust. Imo most people would want to take a business with that much potential as far as they could.
