Also, yes, I read the Obama memoir and I liked it very much. Though my reading here has focused on bios, not memoirs, so I can’t really place it into context of other presidential memoirs
Lost among the news of the highly-anticipated Obama memoir: the "first full-length biography" of Jimmy Carter is out on Sept. 29 https://t.co/NIof00j54U
There’s no feeling like finishing a book, and I’m proud of this one. In A Promised Land, I try to provide an honest accounting of my presidency, the forces we grapple with as a nation, and how we can heal our divisions and make democracy work for everybody.
In light of the passing of the great hero @repjohnlewis, I tweeted a thread of books by/on him worth checking out and you better believe I’m going to be scoping out that authorized bio from Meacham
So keep an eye out over the next several months and into 2021 as I occasionally move my way through these books. And, as always, please read along, share your thoughts, and send me your suggestions.
Stay home, stay safe, wash your hands!
Hello! It’s been a while! Thanks, pandemic. Today, #HamiltonFilm is officially live on Disney+. The musical played a role in spurring on this project as originally conceived 5 years ago and it’s still as powerful to me today as it was then. Check it out if you can!
I recently read a book about the Tulsa massacre. I have another on the stack as well as a book about Rosewood. Ibram X. Kendi’s Stamped From the Beginning and Erika Lee’s America for Americans are other books on the to-read stack.
fascinating about BOYS ON THE BUS is that it’s Neary 40 years old and yet the problems it explores — a media fumbling to handle a nefarious administration, concerns about print media’s future, a press secretary that blatantly lies and berates the press — are prescient even today
Enjoying BOYS ON THE BUS so far. Will be great setup for F&L72 later this year. Great writing and great insight as to how the political media operated then. Would love a similar book NOW because so much is the same but what’s changed has probably REALLY changed
Only downside is I’m not familiar with those scribes like I am current ones. Can certainly pick up context clues but being written so soon after the 72 race, assumptions are made you know what you’re reading about and some details slip through the cracks
I’m going to start with a new book: The Boys On The Bus. A good prelude to my regular election year read of Fear and Loathing 1972. It’ll be a great glimpse into the old ways of campaign trail media coverage.
Hi! I’ve been AWOL for a bit, but I’ll be back this week. Sometimes the gods don’t give a damn about your reading schedule.
In the meantime, #HappyPresidentsDay!!! https://t.co/a5IF79ozY8
So here we are! A lot has gone down and I’ve been sidetracked from reading a lot lately.
I loved what I read of 13 Days but by the time I came back to it, it was harder to get back in to it (confusion over multiple players) so I’m gonna try it again later this year
For now...
