8th Jan 1815, At New Orleans, the British attacked strong US defences along the Mississippi unaware peace had been signed. Poor coordination and missing assault gear doomed the attack. Over 2,000 British casualties whilst US losses were very light.
This time next week you shall find us in the formal garden at the incredibly special @1815Memorial Hougoumont Farm. We will be preparing for what is going to be a very special 210th anniversary reconstruction. Stay tuned for more!
This time last week we took part in the @NapoleonicAssoc event @ChilternOAM.
It was an outstanding event and proved that there’s never a better time to “take the shilling” and join one of “Wellington’s finest” living history groups.
I haven’t posted properly for ages as I’ve been sick and really busy! So prepare yourselves for a photo dump of a catch up of things that I’ve been working on for the last 6 weeks or so.
First up, some excellent training was had with the 33rd, @44thFoot and 68th Foot up north!
Next up, some more training with @44thFoot this time taking place at home in Essex. It’s great to see the unit not only making huge improvements in its material culture and drill but also really starting to gel and build some cohesion.
Some exciting times ahead for our drill!
This Sunday, 23rd March, the 44th (East Essex) Regiment of Foot will be returning to @TilburyFort for our first training event of the year. The Fort is open to the public, so please pop by. Check out the link in the profile for more information.

Last weekend saw the end to our 2024 season with the event @LandguardF joining the 1/95th Foot for the event. Now that the 2024 season is over, our members can enjoy a rest before training starts again in the new year.
