@BernardBeatty4@andrenftart To the extent that they have to pass all the units in training, perhaps? But it’s being described on here like it’s some sort of North Korean brainwashing programme.

"The proper, balanced, and productive response is far harder than acting on gut feelings and emotion. It is to grieve first, establish facts second, and argue about policy third. Henry Nowak was murdered by Vickrum Digwa. Digwa lied as Nowak lay dying. The police response looks appalling and may turn out to have been professionally indefensible. The IOPC must be allowed to complete its work. Political actors who turn the family’s grief into tribal fuel should be judged harshly. Violent disorder in Nowak’s name should be condemned without reservation."
Very good piece from @Mr_Andrew_Fox for @Quillette

@RegHumber@PYeerk Oh the police were a disaster, that seems definite. I don’t think that they showed any instincts, except perhaps to get it over with. Easy to imagine that this wasn’t the first time they’d dragged someone off impatiently - and if so, this was a disaster waiting to happen.
@RegHumber@PYeerk Yes, but as the judge explained in the summing-up, that wasn’t obvious in the circumstances. The police should have looked, but seem to have assumed that he was drunk and not making much sense. This, obviously, was horribly wrong but it fitted what they’d been told to expect.
@RegHumber@PYeerk - aggressor on the floor. They didn’t check, just took it all as read. It’s terrible policing and it ended in tragedy, but they seem to have been almost passive throughout.
@RegHumber@PYeerk Personally, I’m not convinced of that. If the police arrived and found two people in a similar state, each accusing the other, and they nicked the white guy then certainly. What they found was what they were expecting, including’victim’ with family & supposed intoxicated
I saw a slightly bizarre tweet citing Sarah Everard as the closest English comparator of George Floyd's killing.
A young black woman died on August 1st, 1993, after being suffocated by police officers in her home in Hornsey, north London.
Her name was Joy Angelia Gardner. /1
@AvonandsomerRob If you reverse-park, then the wheels that do the steering come out first and are free to make more varied manoeuvres. If you go head-first, your options are severely limited by the cars either side.
And your view is badly restricted, making it more dangerous.
