Happy Deep-sea Day. This is my new favourite coral. We found it during our last expedition in Costa Rican waters. Thanks to National Geographic @SchmidtOcean and @4DOceansLab for the support. It took a massive effort and preparation, but it was worth it. https://t.co/IM1JtriJvA
Tomorrow I will present my research on "corals and sponges habitat selection and niche differentiation" 🪸🪸to the @DSBSoc. I used 3D models to dig deeper in complex ecological relations. Study Location Middle Atlantic Ridge. PM for a link☺️ @DeepStewardship@4DOceansLab@DFO_NL
Ana Belen Yanes Suarez (@BelenOcean) from Memorial University of Newfoundland will give a talk titled "Corals and sponges habitat selection within vertical walls".
Abstract submission and registration is now open! Join us in St. John's this August. Submit an abstract to the general call, or choose to be considered for inclusion in a special session. Full details here: https://t.co/0Ut6zaAXxs

Congratulations Myrah Graham, a @MemorialUSci graduate student with the Marine Institute’s 4D Oceans Lab, on winning @ACUNSAUCEN's “Arctic Science to Art” poster contest for early-career researchers. 🌊🐙🐚 View the illustration here 🔗 https://t.co/mli8tWfgfm
Two members of Dr. Robert’s 4D Oceans Lab – PhD candidates Emmeline Broad and Ana-Belén Yánez Suárez – also participated in the vertical reefs project: https://t.co/obWYnY4BgB #CliffReefs
Dr. Katleen Robert led an international teams of scientists in a @SchmidtOcean expedition that discovered two pristine, cold-water coral reefs and two uncharted seamounts in the waters surrounding the Galápagos Islands. Details: https://t.co/QpaKdRpCGG
The #CliffReefs expedition might be over, but the work to analyses over 30tb of data on vertical cold-water corals is only just starting

In the seamount we just maped close to La Isla del Coco this is what we saw within OMZ 🤯🪸. All the fear I felt to send the ROV SuBastian in this unexplored waters was so worth it. After this leg there are many more questions to answer. @InsideNatGeo@SchmidtOcean, @4DOceansLab
Ana-Belen Yanez Suarez is a marine biologist from Ecuador. “I was never afraid, only curious. I had no doubt. I wanted to study the sea and the sea animals.”

To lead the expedition in La Isla del Coco focusing on understanding the distribution of corals 🪸across OMZ was challenging but rewarding🤩. We found unique ecosystems, coral with eggs, octopuses, sharks, mantarays and mapped an unexplored seamount🧵 @InsideNatGeo@SchmidtOcean
Look what we found in la Isla del Coco while exploring the deep sea. We saw four of them in one dive! @SchmidtOcean @InsideNageo @DSBSoc#octopus#deepsea
