If you notice excessive oil in the air filter of a car you're buying, don't ignore it.
In the best-case scenario, it could be a blocked PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve) which is responsible for relieving pressure inside the engine.
In the worst case scenario, it could be worn piston rings, causing excessive crankcase pressure that forces oil into the air intake system.
This is one of the many things we carefully check during our pre-purchase inspections.
