Today, I was honored to join H.E @KagutaMuseveni and H.E @WilliamsRuto at the groundbreaking of the Devki Iron & Steel Plant in Tororo, a transformative milestone in our drive for mineral value addition and regional industrialization. This project strengthens the iron and steel value chain, supports our Tenfold Growth Strategy and Vision 2040 and will produce up to 600,000 tons of steel annually, creating jobs and expanding local manufacturing capacity.
It also deepens Uganda–Kenya cooperation and demonstrates the power of East African partnerships in unlocking shared prosperity.
The OAGS AGM brings together African Geological Surveys, EU & China Geological Surveys, diplomats & development partners to strengthen data sharing, technology transfer & mineral governance across the continent. #OAGSAGM2025
Ratifying the AMDC is key to Africa's mining future. At the Organisation of African Geological Surveys #OAGS Assembly, our Head Tunde Arisekola highlighted how this legal endorsement will ensure sustainable funding & enhance our ability to support member states in transforming their mineral sectors. #AfricanMiningVision
I thank President Ruto for encouraging the investor to set up here because Uganda is a natural source of raw materials, and East Africa must grow together. I congratulate Dr. Raval for committing to full value addition and for his upcoming Kabale iron ore project that will create even more jobs. I caution our people not to delay investors with compensation issues, the government will handle that. As we reduce the USD 5 billion lost annually to imports and prepare for the Standard Gauge Railway to support such big industries, I can say the future is bright and even more investments will follow.
Today, together with President William Ruto, I presided over the groundbreaking of the USD 500 million Devki Mega Steel Plant in Tororo. This project, led by our brother Dr. Narendra Raval, marks a major step in our journey to liberate Africa from centuries of exploitation. For over 500 years, we have been losing value through slavery, colonialism, and the export of raw materials. With this integrated steel operation that will employ more than 15,000 Ugandans, we moved closer to ending that haemorrhage of our minerals, our jobs, and our foreign exchange.
I commissioned the Wagagai gold mining project in Busia District today, celebrating a significant step towards processing minerals in Uganda. Under my leadership, we will not export unprocessed minerals, as this undermines our economy.
Wagagai aims to achieve 99.9% purity in gold processing locally, benefiting Uganda financially and creating over 5,000 jobs once fully operational. I urge other miners to ensure minerals are processed before export.
By maximising our natural resources, gold, lithium, tea, iron, etc., we can create jobs and industrialize Uganda. The Wagagai project is expected to generate over $100 million annually for 21 years, and we must leverage these resources for a sustainable future.
I congratulate them!
We were privileged to have Minister @PNyamutoro hand over certificates to newly-registered gold miners' cooperatives; Nakabat, Cheptakol, Lotogir, Kapiyosha, during the stakeholders' meeting. Cooperatives will support artisanal miners to formalise operations.

Day 2 of the 13th Annual Mineral Wealth Conference:
The history of the scramble and Partition of Africa was benched on our Mineral resources, 140years later today the future of our continent still lies in it's Mineral Wealth.
Understanding the value of what we have in critical Minerals such as copper, cobalt,Graphite,Nickel,Tin,Tungsten,Tantalite,Rare Earth Elements, iron ore and gold and further leveraging how we can extract that value is a step in shaping our strategic interest in Mineral development and as well alignment to Africa's mining vision.
Govt earmarked the mining sector as an anchor to fostering economic growth and it continues to sustain an enabling environment for investment in the same.
Focus on the Mining sector is triggering the magic bullet to unlocking the quantification and valuation of Mineral development and beneficiation.
