Not my list. I stand by it anyway. If Washington, Madison, and Jefferson saw this perk machine, they’d be spinning.
Congress should:
1. Get paid only in office — no pension, no carry-over perks
2. Pay into Social Security and live on it like the rest of us
3. Fund any extra retirement themselves
4. Stop voting themselves raises; cap increases below Social Security COLA when we’re in deficit
5. Use Medicare, not a separate plan
6. Follow every law they pass, including trading rules
7. Lose the self-written contracts
8. Serve two terms, then return to private life
Office is a tour of duty. Not a lifestyle.
