@VL2102 although: things like an Indian recycling radfem talking points usually mean those divides already existed
versus Japan is significantly less polarized
@VL2102 I think that's a valid worry
the American-western political divide seeps everywhere it can. You'll see people living in the Philippines or Pakistan recycling American talking points.
@VL2102 not quite the same, but it's interesting how one of the things that was quietly discarded from the Enlightenment was a faith that borderline mathematical rationality could solve morality and politics
my kooky interpretation is that we no longer live in the modern era
@VL2102 difficult to pinpoint when I learned about the former (it's like trying to pinpoint when I learned about, say, animals)
second is recurring since I was a kid
@VL2102 *side note, but JP and Eng both have alphabets that don't quite fit. JP borrows the monosyllabic chinese alphabet, but has so few sounds it has to stretch out words to distinguish them (and there are still so many homophones). English has ~twice as many sounds as letters
@VL2102 ...oddly rigid sentence structure that works by "tacking on" descriptive phrases. (like, "The old woman holding a red bag crossed the street" would be said by tacking on phrases to "woman" to "woman street cross")
