I am a human rights defender fighting for a man who has been failed by the justice system for 13 years. I am doing this from a war zone, where my own government told me to evacuate. I stayed because he has young children and I refuse to abandon them. I contacted your office desperate for help. Someone on your team responded. They expressed sympathy. They promised the case would be reviewed. They gave us all hope. Then they vanished. No follow-up. Emails ignored. Tweets ignored. Complete silence. You do not have to take my case. You can refer me to another rapporteur. You can simply tell me no. But to reach out to someone fighting for a life in those conditions, give them hope, make a promise, and then disappear without a single word — that is its own kind of cruelty. I am starting to lose all faith in the UN Human Rights system existing for anything beyond speeches. #HRC61

I’m in your comments again because two weeks ago your office confirmed my case and then disappeared. The situation has become life or death since then and I still can’t get a response.

@MaryLawlorhrds Is this all for show? Because from where I’m standing, everyone in your office seems more interested in photo ops than actually helping the people you’re supposed to protect.

I’m a human rights defender. The UN assigned my case to your office. Your team confirmed it and then went silent. We’ve been waiting two weeks since that first email. Two weeks. In that time everything has spiraled out of control and this has become a matter of life and death.
I understand you’re busy. But you go above and beyond for every other defender you post about — are they somehow more deserving? This case involves high-profile individuals and serious human rights violations and I can’t even get a reply.

Our backs are against the wall. If you won’t help, transfer our case to someone who will actually respond. I’ll keep showing up in your comments because the very office meant to defend us is the one ignoring us.

For people who claim to stand for human rights, the fact that I have to publicly tweet you because you ghosted me on emails is extremely disappointing, especially given the extreme sensitivity, high-profile names involved, and the danger I am in. Is anyone reading our emails?
