We protect & regenerate forests where #Corozo nuts grow wild. Support communities & artisans who sustainably collect & process the nuts as a livelihood.
@TrafinoOfficial works with more than 700 artisans who transform tagua seeds into button blanks. The majority of these artisans are women. Also, through projects implemented by our foundation, FOREVER LUNG, we promote women’s involvement in every step of the Tagua value chain
The use of corozo-derived products contributes to a healthy environment and promotes the well-being of thousands of community members and artisans in Ecuador who receive decent income for their work. In this way, they are encouraged to conserve the rainforests.

In the @GIZEcuador BioValor project, there was a challenge: the communities depended on middlemen to transport the tagua seeds. As a result, they were subject to unfair trading. We provided communities with electronic scales, which will help them sell their tagua at a fair price.
To initiate actions to combat both deforestation and the threat to the tagua species, we established 2 seedbeds with 2,500 seeds each, to better understand the germination of seeds and undertake reforestation actions with the support of the tagua-collecting communities.
In collaboration with the communities, we created a Guide to Management and Sustainable Use of Tagua. This guide describes how to correctly collect the tagua seeds without interfering with or damaging the ecosystem, and many more guidelines to achieve good practice.
More than 100 people gathered for the closing event of the BioValor project in Manta, Ecuador. We had the pleasure of sharing these moments with members of the collecting communities, artisans, academics the @GIZEcuador the Ministery of Environment and people from our team.
A goal we focused on with the BIOVALOR project, with @GIZEcuador, was the creation of a network of tagua-collecting communities that aims to help collectors be informed, improve communication, and eliminate middlemen for the transportation and selling of tagua seeds.
During the last 18 months we have worked with the program BIOVALOR of @GIZEcuador on the socioeconomic strengthening of the Tagua-collecting communities. We are helping people who live off tagua to continue doing so in a dignified manner and become the main forest protectors.
“FAIRWILD is the most effective mechanism for ensuring that wild resources (like tagua seeds) are responsibly sourced & produced, both socially & ecologically while it provides assurance to all stakeholders regarding the quality of these resources & their traceable origins."

The exciting journey of sharing the wonderful story behind the most ethical, social and environmentally responsible buttons in the fashion industry -the Corozo Buttons- continues.
With the support of @ProEcuador_ we participated with a stand at the F&A Trade Show in New Delhi.
Then we visited the artisans to see the transformation process of the nuts into blanks that Ecuador exports for the manufacture of buttons. All made by hand, with great effort, to offer the fashion industry and the world a piece of pure responsibility and ethics.

Drove several hours across rivers to enter the territory of one of the dozens of communities that earn their living by collecting corozo nuts and are guardians of thousands of acres of tropical forest and biodiversity where the nuts grow wild.
