Previously Mod Maths at @Jagex. Into music, photography and general stuff-making. Currently developing an unannounced indie game! ๐ณ๏ธโ๐ they/he/etc
Hello! I've been gone for ages working on an as-of-yet unannounced game, BUT check out this @ColourMeWed acoustic set, out today on Bandcamp, taped by me! All proceeds to my friend Jen and her partner Robin so they can afford IVF. Help a queer family out, get some great music ๐
It's kind of cool to think, "Hey, this passage sounds familiar", only to realise it is from the one Said book you translated into Brazilian Portuguese for @editoraunesp over a decade ago.
Edward Said briefly recounting how his visit to South Africa and discussion w/ Mandela helped him better understand the place of the Palestinian struggle within broader decolonisation movements. In particular, the way Palestinians supported anticolonial struggled across the world
... in the direst of situations, and if all I could say about that is that not being a fascist will bring you no joy, no meaning, only overwhelming misery, then I'd likely just opt out of life.
Disclaimer: I haven't played Rogue Trader and I'm not very familiar with 40K.
I'm very sympathetic to exploring the different ways games can reward you or fail to, and to what effect, but I'm going to try to unpick the points that stood out to me here. ๐งต
a huge problem that a lot of RPGs have is that doing the right thing is 'free', or even explicitly rewards you.
rogue trader does let you try to do right, at a cost
if incurring costs from doing the right thing stops you, you aren't actually as good a person as you thought
... and as crushed by capitalism as so many of us feel, I'm not really interested in a world view that says not only that this is shit, but that there is no conceivable alternative to it being shit. I've seen people supporting one another and rekindling their spirits...
@bombsfall Saw ME REX live last month and it was a genuinely great show. I was shattered after a day of taking trains and going to marches and later seeing 5 other sets, but I'm glad I stayed.
@bonaneh That threshold is a bad joke. In Loc a team lead (not the translators or QA under them!) makes that much if they're lucky. I interviewed somewhere where their budget was around 32k! The sad thing is that if the Tories implement this on their way out, Labour won't revert it.
@bonaneh I'm very lucky I've been here long enough none of this applies to me, but I've had my fair share of 'am I going to be allowed to stay?' anxiety in the past, and this sounds like a fucking nightmare. I'm so sorry.
