When Alan came home from prison, everything had changed. Rebuilding his life meant navigating probation meetings, job interviews, and new opportunities. But as Alan put it, “getting there was half the battle.”

Without reliable transportation, even the smallest steps toward stability can feel out of reach.

That's where Uber x REFORM came in. Through REFORM Alliance's Work Matters program, Uber-funded rides helped Alan get to skilled-trades training, build new skills, and take the next step toward a career.

Today, Alan is an apprentice with the Sheet Metal Workers Union, building a future on his own terms.

@Uber and REFORM Alliance are helping people on probation and parole turn second chances into skilled-trades careers with family-sustaining wages and benefits. Through REFORM’s Work Matters program, graduates of the inaugural cohorts in Pennsylvania and Virginia secured full-time jobs, nearly all in local unions—helping them support their families and build a future beyond supervision.

The Road To Opportunity features Alan Green in Pittsburgh and Jonathan Casey in Richmond.  Their stories show how reliable transportation can help people navigate the challenges of coming home, build careers, and support their families.

REFORM Alliance teamed up with Workforce1 at our New York Office to provide career services and job placement support for residents from Edgecombe Transitional Housing.

The Grant Associates (@GrantAssociates) staff guided each participant through the necessary paperwork to become their client and conducted 1-on-1 interviews to connect them with the best employers. By equipping folks with fair-chance hiring resources, job readiness tools, and career tips, we’re helping create real pathways to success and breaking down barriers to employment.

At the end of the event, 17 job interviews were set up for participants.
