I am being asked if this means the fraternity brothers just recently became willing to talk. No, that is not the case. They have already provided statements to law enforcement. I started talking to them over six weeks ago. I have never heard of a lawyer being involved, and I have never spoken to a lawyer for the fraternity itself or any of the fraternity brothers.

That being said, it was not, and is not, my job to find out if they have or have not spoken to the family. I am an investigator investigating Riley's death. I am only interested in statements about the events leading up to and after Riley went missing. I honestly do not know if they have spoken to the family or not. That is not how my communication with the family works. When we speak, it is very matter-of-fact, and those are personal issues that I cannot let influence my investigation.

If, through my interviews, I felt information was being purposely withheld from me or the family, I would address it, but that has not been the case.

I would caution anyone from thinking there is any cryptic message being sent. There is not. From my interviews, I know that several of the fraternity brothers read the social media messages and are very hurt by accusations that they harmed Riley. I will say this: starting at 1:30 am, when they realized Riley was not in any of the hotel rooms, a group of several people began a search in the pouring rain that lasted until about 5 am. They contacted Riley's family. They then went to the detention center, thinking it was a police station, to file a report. They were told they couldn't file one there, so they walked to the other side of town, where they had no luck filing a report. So they called 911. They waited five hours for an officer to be assigned from 911, but no officers ever arrived. Finally, they saw an officer arresting someone on Broadway Street, approached him, and said they had been trying all day long to file a report but couldn't get anyone to respond. That officer went and dropped his prisoner off at the jail, came right back, and helped start the missing person report process.
