🔴⚪ 28th of August, 2011. One of, if not the darkest day in Arsenal's history.

Arsenal's heaviest league defeat since 1927. The first time they'd conceded 8 goals in a game since 1896.

Numbers that belonged in a different era of football, dredged back on a Sunday afternoon in front of 75,000 people and millions watching around the world.

Arsenal were a club in freefall. No hope, no vision, a laughingstock. Wearing the skin of a once-great institution, but rotting quietly underneath.

The panic from that embarrassment had set in. And out of that panic, came a little bit of salvation.

In response to the humiliation, Wenger went on a deadline day spree, spending £27,000,000 in the space of 48 hours.

It was messy, it was ugly, and it was the exact kind of business that Arsenal and Arsène Wenger had always claimed to be above.

On August 31st, 2011, Arsenal announced the signings of two players that would go on to change everything.

One went on to play 221 times for Arsenal, lift three FA Cups, and wear the armband. He hung up his boots in 2018 and walked straight into one of the most important offices in the club.

What he's built at Hale End over the past eight years—it's nothing short of a revolution. He's rebuilt the scouting network, restructured the coaching staff, stripped back the unnecessary privileges that had created a sense of entitlement amongst the academy.

The Sakas, Smith Rowes, Lewis-Skellys, Dowmans, Nwaneris, Marli Salmons may not be a household name if it wasn't for Per Mertesacker.

And the other signing needs no introduction.

Two panic buys that may never have happened if we weren't humiliated at Old Trafford that day. Two panic buys that went on to change the trajectory of Arsenal forever.

There's no light without dark. There's no joy without pain. You simply cannot have a rainbow without a little bit of rain.

If Mikel Arteta wins the Champions League with Arsenal… It would be one of the greatest achievements in the club’s modern history.

But no, that still doesn’t make him bigger than Arsène Wenger.

I don’t think you fully understand how massive Wenger’s legacy actually is.

Wenger didn’t just win trophies, he transformed Arsenal Football Club forever and even Premier League at large.

He arrived in 1996 and changed English football culturally, tactically, nutritionally, structurally, everything. At a time when the Premier League was still deeply rooted in old-school methods, Wenger modernised the game. Sports science, diet, technical football, player development, he pushed England forward.

Then you look at the football itself.

Three Premier League titles.
Seven FA Cups.
An Invincibles season nobody has replicated.
Competing against Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, Mourinho’s Chelsea, Abramovich money, and still building elite sides consistently for over a decade.

And don’t forget the context of the Emirates era too.

Arsenal moved stadiums and financially handicapped themselves for years. Most clubs collapse during transitions like that. Wenger somehow kept Arsenal in the Champions League every single season while operating on tighter budgets than his rivals. He kept the club elite during its most vulnerable period.

That matters.

Arteta has done an unbelievable job rebuilding Arsenal. He restored standards, rebuilt the culture, made Arsenal feared again, and tactically elevated the team back to Europe’s elite. Winning a Champions League would cement him as one of Arsenal’s greatest managers instantly.

But overtaking Wenger? That requires more than one historic moment. It will take a lot more than that.

Wenger gave Arsenal an identity the modern club still lives off today. He gave them longevity, dominance, innovation, iconic football, legendary players, and an era people still talk about nearly 30 years later.

To surpass Wenger, Arteta would probably need sustained dominance:
multiple league titles,
continued European success,
longevity,
and an era that genuinely eclipses Wenger’s cultural impact on the club.

Because Wenger is not just Arsenal’s greatest manager due to trophies.

He is Arsenal.

Rivals and haters keep asking me
"What will you do if Arsenal go trophyless?".

First of all, it is none of your business, but if you care to know, I have survived worse.

There was a time my team was is such a bad state that, there was a panel to decide whether to exclude Arsenal from the traditional big 6.

There was a time, when the season begins, I would already prepare myself for almost all our defenders scoring an own goal.

The latter part of Le Professor's reign was so bad that Arsenal was a recurring meme everywhere you turn. Whether on TV, radio, the internet and even my neighborhood.

There was a time, the only player Arsenal could sign in a full summer transfer window was a keeper, with the excuse that, we could not find the players we needed. 🤦‍♂️

I have survived all that, but you think these days that every team in the world is afraid of us is when I will not survive? Come on...

We have been second 3 times in a roll in the league, elsewhere, it is an achievement of great proportion. If Atletico Madrid did that in LA Liga they would be praised.

We just qualified for a first back to back Champions League Semi-final, who knows what will happen.

We are in a very sound financial position, that makes us able to compete with anybody in the Transfer Market, which means, we can improve this monstrous team and go again next season.

We have a fairly young talented group of players, ready to fight for this team, turning down the advances of other teams just to stay at Arsenal. Super talented kids like Dowman, Nwaneri, Salmon, MLS and a host of others to look out for.

This team is on the UP, there is no going back to those dark days.

Then I tell them, the really important question to ask yourself is:

What will you do if Arsenal wins the League or Champions League, or both?

Where will you hide? 🤣

Tone dari berita-berita tersebut bisa dibilang nggak begitu positif ke Saka, karena kesannya pemain yang di-hype kok ternyata overrated dan assist-nya jarang-jarang? Ada sentimen ke arah sana.

In my own definition: Gravity berarti bagaimana keberadaannya di lapangan membawa dampak positif bagi tim dan membawa challenge yang sangat berat bagi lawan.

Belum tentu selalu jadi gol dan assist, tapi yang pasti Saka akan bikin lawan terus-terusan mikir: “Jir nih orang bahaya banget”

Gravity ini nggak ada stats-nya kayak gol & assist, tapi gue mau coba ada-adain dan hitung, hehe.
