I’m seeing a lot of EU initiatives pop up that talk about EU values. The USA is not mentioned in the same Western Democratic breath any more because the pro-gun, anti-universal healthcare, anti-science, anti-education wing of our politics has made us a pariah state.
The world is a complex and nuanced place. Those who fail to understand it will gravitate toward leaders who claim to simplify it for them, even if that interpretation is at the service of their own self-aggrandizement and lies.
How far gone are you if work is the only thing you know how to enjoy? When your job has a consequential impact on people’s lives, it may feel like everything else, including fun and relaxation, is without meaningful consequence.
It’s politeness that keeps the worst of ourselves at bay; it’s kindness that makes all of what we politely say and do true. There are many of us who have chosen to roam the Earth acting neither polite nor kind.
You have to realize that those in power think they always have to be right to justify and reinforce their power. That version of authority has always led to bad things in history. That same attitude in underlings is somehow insubordination.

Unless it’s already part of your routine, if you’re going to read books you’re going to have sacrifice something else on your daily schedule. I gave up listening to daily news updates, which it more like political gossip more than anything these days.
The thing that absolutely impresses me about #GenZ is that they know their worth. They get capitalism. It’s a system that they didn’t create and they wouldn’t necessarily choose it, but they’ll live with it. They’ll do their job but it’s just a job. #Genx tends to romanticize it.
I’ve seen a lot smart people tell rhetorical rivals that they suffer from cognitive dissonance or the Dunning Kruger effect. What’s the point? It’s like telling a noseless man that he can’t smell.
Grammatically, would you write “20 1st graders and 6 educators” or ”twenty 1st graders and six educators”? Because 10 years ago that many human beings were massacred at Sandy Hook, no matter how you decide to write it.
We’re the only conscious creatures that fret about our existence when the non-conscious or non-existent amongst us don’t have a single hope about ever having to worry about such a beautiful thing.
