This is an utter shame to the American people, and why our government is a laughingstock to much of the world: when our UN ambassador has the temerity to argue that Iran doesn't have the right to "choke off the entire world's economy" and claim it was because of "a dispute over its nuclear program" --when Iran took control over the Strait ONLY after the WAR we choose to start against Iran, is humiliating.

This exposes the arrogance and hubris of our leaders. We can start a war against another country that violates the U.S. Constitution, our own laws, and every international law, and then when they retaliate against our interests in ways we hate, instead of recognizing our actions spawned that action, we make the pathetic public attempt to foist all the responsibility on the nation we attacked illegally.

No one is fooled outside of the president's core supporters, and it further deteriorates our standing and credibility among both our allies and adversaries alike.

We should never have started this war that wasn't necessary for our security, that was too ambitious for the forces we had to dispatch, and against an enemy that had too many defensive capabilities for us to reasonably overthrow. At least don't add insult to injury by trying to play the victim.

While Iranian officials say they remain fully engaged in diplomacy, they are also preparing for a possible resumption of the war. Iranian officials point to a pattern in the past year in which earlier rounds of negotiations were followed by major U.S.-Israeli bombing campaigns, fueling deep skepticism inside Tehran over Washington’s intentions.

Pattern: Every time Iran sends its replies or amendments to the proposed framework in this diplomatic process, the US denounces Iran. The US then sends its responses and Trump starts posting and then they leak the US version of a "potential deal" to their media conveyor belts.

There is intense diplomacy, exchange of amendments on a potential MOU between Iran and the US. The entire process is a damning indictment of the fact that this was a war of choice by the US. A deal could have been reached in February or much earlier.

Trump will try to manufacture a claim of victory for putting out parts of a raging fire he started, but the fact is Iran inflicted a level of damage and displayed a resolve that stunned Trump's administration and they have flailed to find a way out.

Despite the assassination of its senior leadership, Iran engaged in organized, sustained retaliatory strikes and its government remained intact and in power. The promised uprisings or "regime collapse" never materialized. Iran used asymmetric tactics to create a severe crisis in the Strait of Hormuz that the U.S. could not defeat, culminating with the failed "Project Freedom" farce.

Nothing is guaranteed and the U.S. twice bombed Iran while claiming to be negotiating. That could happen again. But time is not on Trump's side. The U.S. will have to make concessions that Trump swore he would not. This is not going to end with Iran's "unconditional surrender."
