While you’re learning in school, make sure you’re paying attention to what life is teaching you too.

School taught me a few things. The streets taught me the rest.

And on National Online Learning Day, here’s what I want you to remember...

It doesn’t matter where the lesson comes from.

A classroom. A mentor. A mistake A failure. A conversation you almost ignored.

If you’re still learning, you’re still growing.

Nobody in the classroom told me family outweighs every deal on the table. Nobody told me time moves faster than you realize, or that staying safe can be the riskiest move you make.

I picked up a lot of these lessons the hard way, so here you go.

Another day, another groundbreaking.

As we all know, OKC is the softball capital of the world, home of USA Softball, home of the largest and greatest softball stadium in the world, home of the Women’s College World Series, the Softball Hall of Fame, and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. But we are not resting on our laurels.

Today, we broke ground on the new indoor training facility that will be ready in time for the Olympics. This facility will be known as the Choctaw Nation Fieldhouse, and it is made possible by the voters who approved the 2025 OKC bond issue, support from the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, and a partnership with the Choctaw Nation.

It was an honor to break ground today with Choctaw Chief Gary Batton, Craig Cress of USA Softball and other supporters of OKC and softball. This investment will allow us to maintain our unique status in the sport of softball, and these investments will continue to deliver a major return to our city.

The Treaty of Paris officially ended the American Revolutionary War on September 3rd. Signed at the Hôtel d’York in Paris by Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay, and Britain’s David Hartley, it forced Great Britain to recognize the United States as a free and independent nation.

The easiest way to make money isn’t always the smartest way.

Growing up in my neighborhood, I saw people chasing after what seemed like easy money. But I learned early on that every opportunity has a cost. It’s a matter of what that cost means to you.

Oklahoma City joins the nation in mourning Dolly Parton’s passing. We especially appreciate her support of literacy. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library has enrolled nearly 19,000 OKC metro kids through the Metropolitan Library System.

Dolly played concerts in Oklahoma City through the decades. Here is an image of her at the Civic Center Music Hall in 1968.
