The sale isn't lost if a homeowner doesn’t close immediately.
Tell them what to look for in a contractor (all should be you.)
Tell them the signs of a bad contractor.
Follow up with valuable content.
Set in a meeting after any other meetings with other contractors.
85% of contractors go out of business in 7 years. Common threads we've seen from them:
"I stay busy"
"I close 90%… for the people that are serious"
"My market is too competitive"
"Online advertising doesn’t work"
"All the leads are low quality"
Simple ways Roofers can maximize leads:
Yard signs on any completed jobs
Doorhangers/Brochures for door-knocking
QR code for Google reviews.
Book follow-ups in the calendar.
Ask for referrals. At least after the sale and after the job.
“Lead generation is too expensive." Let's say you have 1000 qualified leads and you sell 100 roofs at 10K each. You now have 1M in revenue. So what’s more expensive? Figuring out how to generate 1000 leads, or losing out on 1M in Revenue because you don’t know how?
Should you use these methods? Maybe, but they are there to spark ideas. Think about how you can be different. This allows you to get your “foot in the door” so you can have a higher throughput. Try it out and test different things. Feel free to try the cookie or gift card idea.
Doorknocking *can* be tiring and ineffective, but it doesn’t have to be. Most doorknockers are playing the game on “hard mode” Homeowners have heard someone pitch hundreds of times. They're conditioned to resist you. Make this one change to 5x your sales:
Now you are a cookie sampler who happens to be a roofer. It also uses the law of reciprocity. You can give someone something and they feel obligated to give back.
Recap: 1H for 7 posts on 1 day/week. 10-15 minutes/day to post and engage. If you get good feedback - 1 CTA per 2 weeks. If the content is valuable, when they need a roof, they will come to you. Bonus points if you are in other communities. If you are, make sure to rotate posts.
With local Facebook groups, you can literally “steal” business from your competitors. This is great for those <1M, and 1M-10M. But it has to be done the right way. Follow this 3-step process: Valuable content. Value Adds/Engagement. Routine Call-To-Actions.
How do you implement this though? Write all your posts 1 day a week. Block out a 1-hour block to write 7 posts. Make sure the content is good. Spend 10-15 minutes per day posting the content and engaging with the community. Plan this in as well.
Recap: Decide on a sales framework/process. Gather detailed and structured data surrounding your process. Adjust one thing for 1-3 weeks. This will result in large improvements over 2-3 months. Then you can start advertising online and scale exponentially.
Using a framework/process allows you to make tweaks. Without a process, you're just shooting in the dark. That doesn’t mean you need a script. Another commonality - every roofer over 5M/year has had the following metrics at the ready. If you want to scale, you should too:
Last - don’t blame the leads. Someone can sell them, just not you. Accept responsibility. The leads play a part, but if you were 10x better at sales, you could’ve closed them. Don’t complain. Just do the work, or stay where you're at. Future you will thank you for being a doer.
