It is vitamin D deficiency season!
In my opinion, Vitamin D is one of the best defenses against infectious diseases and even cancer.
Dosing should be 5,000 IUs or even higher and a higher dose than what used to be recommended and still is by many doctors, is critically important (get your vitamin D levels checked, if you aren't sure)!
Vitamin D₃ works best in balance with zinc, vitamin A, and vitamin K₂, which support its signaling and calcium-regulating effects.
Adequate magnesium is important when supplementing vitamin D. Magnesium supports vitamin D activation and helps regulate calcium by acting as a natural calcium antagonist. If magnesium intake is low, especially alongside high vitamin D intake, calcium regulation can be impaired, increasing the risk of elevated blood or urinary calcium in susceptible individuals. For this reason, ensuring sufficient magnesium intake is recommended when taking vitamin D.
So, supplementing vitamin D3 with A,D, K2, zinc and magnesium makes sense.
BTW- Vitamin D2 is not absorbed well by the body and is a poor substitute for vitamin D3.
The vitamin D prescribed by doctors in prescription form is usually the WRONG KIND. Doctors still prescribe vitamin D2, rather than D3 - don't as me why. There is a prescription vitamin D3 form available but it is uncommonly used by physicians - as insurance companies often won't cover the costs.
If your doc prescribes D2 for you - that is a red flag warning that they haven't done their homework.
