@JonathanShedler Agreed. Pls what about the patient who refuses to forgive them-self influenced by false-belief that they ought to have been able to have act differently/defiantly in the face of very bad parents? “I should have known better” severely punitive towards self…thought/references?🙏

In our role as psychotherapists there's nothing to balance. The work is about the patient, period. It's about understanding the sources & meanings of the *patient's* difficulties & NOTHING ELSE. It's not about us. Our politics/ideologies have no place in clinical consulting room.
1/5 The goal of psychotherapy is to insert spaces for reflection where they have not previously existed and thereby create opportunities to know ourselves more fully, connect with others more deeply, and live life more congruently.
No way in hell would I look for psychiatrist or any other m.h. professional by asking insurance company or by looking on PsychToday.
Health insurer doesn't care if you get good psychiatric care, only that they pay as little as possible.
