"The result is that women are choosing not to run, stepping back from public roles or enduring ongoing psychological harm." Aoife Clements (@itseeefa) Founder of @5050Ni is this week's guest writer for Pivotal Platform. https://t.co/5fziE0i0Wx
Happy Pride Month to all in the LGBTQIA+ community!
Our mission at 50:50NI includes empowering queer and trans women to participate in politics, ensuring that all women are represented and heard.

Studies show that women prioritise sustainability initiatives and invest in the climate. This is important as women and girls are disproportionately impacted by climate change.
More women in politics means a firm commitment to environmental justice!
#WorldEnvironmentDay2025
This week we think of the women who play important yet overlooked roles in the decolonisation of the 17 Non-Self Governing Territories recognised by the UN.
Women's voices must be included in order to dismantle all systems of colonial domination - including the patriarchy!
Had a lovely morning yesterday at the Launch of
@WomensSpacesNI 's 'Pillars for Peace' toolkit.
An amazing tool to facilitate, encourage and increase women's role in peacebuilding in NI.

Semi-regular reminder- Trans women are women! When 50:50, NI say 'more women in politics', this includes trans women. The women in politics should look like us in all our diversity; trans, queer, disabled, ethnically diverse, working class, migrants... and everything in between
Disappointing to see. @JillMacauley has been a great addition to UUP leadership and has done much within the party to encourage women’s participation and setting up a UUP women’s network.
EXCLUSIVE: UUP chairwoman Jill Macauley has resigned after Mike Nesbitt told her he was planning to replace her with party veteran Tom Elliott. The move comes ahead of the leadership seeking key changes to the party constitution at its AGM on Saturday.

@brendanbelfast@SuzyJourno To clarify, in the UK/Ireland and globally, trends show that women are often given 'feminised' portfolios like health or education. It's great to see NI doesn't follow this trend with women in 'masculinised' portfolios like infrastructure and economy.
It's great to see @SuzyJourno highlight this! It's also great to see NI leading on women in Executive positions, particularly after the disappointing cabinet allocations in the Republic of Ireland, where only three positions were allocated to women in the newly formed cabinet.
“It’s easy to assume we do everything badly, NI is setting a good example leading the way on this one,” says Aoife Clements of @5050Ni. "It's positive to see women here in portfolios that aren’t considered traditionally female territory — like the economy & infrastructure." (2/2)
And the counting is complete in #GE24!
All 174 seats filled. 44 women have been elected. That’s 25.3% of TDs in the incoming #Dail
The most women ever elected. But slow progress towards a gender balanced parliament. 🗳️

The Alliance Party's Kate Nicholl has expressed her "disgust" at apparently being "shouted at" by Communities Minister Gordon Lyons.
