Absolutely indefensible. Utterly inexcusable.
In a sickening roll back of basic wildlife protections, a cruel new rule by the Trump regime officially grants trophy hunters the legal authority to bait and execute black and brown bears across millions of acres of Alaska’s national preserves.
This isn't hunting — it is a point-blank slaughter. By allowing hunters to lure these magnificent animals with piles of high-calorie human foods like bacon grease, doughnuts, and meat scraps, the Trump regime has turned our protected public lands into personal execution chambers for wealthy hobbyists. This pathetic, lazy practice creates an extreme safety hazard by deliberately conditioning wild bears to associate humans with food, spiking the risk of aggressive encounters and putting park visitors in direct danger.
Shamefully overturning a common-sense 2024 Biden administration ban, this rule change is nothing more than a corrupt political gift to cowardly right-wing trophy hunters at the direct expense of American wildlife and public safety. Our national preserves belong to the public, not to the special interests of people who need a pile of junk food just to kill a bear at close range.
On the sixteenth of December 1960 a twelve-year-old boy was put on a table in a San Jose hospital, given electric shocks until he was unconscious, and had an ice pick hammered through the thin bone above each eye and swept from side to side through the front of his brain, because his stepmother had told the doctor he was defiant. The doctor's fee was two hundred dollars.
Howard Dully was a big, clumsy, daydreaming boy whose mother had died when he was five, and his father had married a woman called Lou who could not stand him. She took him to six psychiatrists. All six told her the problem was not the boy. The seventh was Walter Freeman, who had performed more lobotomies than any man alive, who drove between state hospitals in a van he called the lobotomobile doing them by the dozen in an afternoon, with no gloves and no surgical training, and who had once done twenty-five in a day. Freeman's notes on Howard, which Howard did not read for forty-four years, record the symptoms. He objects to going to bed. He turns the lights on when there is broad daylight. He does not react to love or to punishment. He has a savage streak. On that evidence, and Lou's signature, and two hundred dollars, Freeman wrote that the boy would benefit from a transorbital lobotomy and did it four days later.
Howard remembers the table. He remembers waking with two black eyes and a fever and no idea what had been done to him, because nobody told him, then or ever. His father never spoke of it. Lou put him into a state institution the following year, and the boy with the holes in his brain spent the next forty years in and out of asylums, juvenile halls, a jail, halfway houses and the street, drinking, drifting, never quite able to say why he was the way he was, with a photograph that existed somewhere of a doctor in a suit standing over a child with a steel spike in each eye socket.
At fifty-six, driving a school bus, he went to find out. He found his file in Freeman's archive at a university in Washington, in the doctor's own handwriting, and read for the first time what his stepmother had said and what the doctor had agreed to. He went to see his father, who was eighty, and asked him why he had let it happen, and his father said he had been bullied into it. Howard told the story on the radio in 2005 and five million people listened to a man weep over a piece of paper.
Walter Freeman was not a quack. He was a professor of neurology, the man who had brought the lobotomy to America, and the operation had won its inventor the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1949. The journals published him. The hospitals booked him. The newspapers called it a miracle. He did it to three and a half thousand people, nineteen of them children, and he kept doing it until 1967, when a patient died on the table and the hospital took his privileges away, and he spent his last years driving the country in the van looking up his old patients to prove it had worked.
That is what settled science looked like from inside, to a twelve-year-old. A mother's complaint, an expert's confidence, a procedure with a prize behind it, two hundred dollars, and a lifetime nobody could give back.
The same institutions now tell you what your child should eat, in the same voice, with the same certainty, and the leaflet has a logo on it. Howard Dully is in his seventies and still cannot say what was taken. Nobody ever apologised.
NEW UPDATE! OUTRAGEOUS: A NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT — IN HIS OWN WORDS AND THEIRS. The Telegraph reported on October 16, citing four sources, that Elon Musk pitched the Starshield slowdown to Donald Trump, and Trump AGREED.
The Wall Street Journal then reported Musk PERSONALLY ordered it. Trump has denied knowing anything three separate times. Reuters says the order came from inside the White House. Somebody is lying — and it's not Ukraine.
The slowdown hit at 1 a.m. on October 14, with no warning to Ukraine's defense forces. Starshield — the military system AMERICAN TAXPAYERS fund — was capped at 160 km/h. Ukraine's 7th Rapid Reaction Corps told Reuters units were FORCED TO CANCEL MISSIONS, with connections dropping mid-flight. Zelensky said that when the speed was reduced, "we were unable to intercept some of the jet-powered Shaheds" — drones flying 300 to 400 km/h at Ukrainian cities, against a 160 km/h cap.
Zelensky added: "People were killed because [there were] not enough interceptors, including interceptors with Starlink, which didn't work."
Since that night, the bombs never stopped. From Reuters and CNN reporting, AT LEAST 37 Ukrainian civilians have been killed in Russian strikes from October 14 to October 21: 6 in Lutsk, 3 in Kirovohrad, 11 in a single 24 hours by October 18, 6 in a Kharkiv park on October 19 (three of them CHILDREN), and 4 more the night of October 20. The United Nations says the first two weeks of October were among the deadliest for Ukrainian civilians IN YEARS.
One unelected billionaire controls America's battlefield communications, holds billions in Pentagon contracts paid by YOU, and — by the reporting — personally slowed the system protecting Ukrainian civilians while Russia bombed them. Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick said it "costs human lives" and demanded witnesses be put UNDER OATH.
Elon Musk is a national security threat. Donald Trump is his protection. And protection expires in 12 days.
PUT THEM UNDER OATH. EVERYBODY KNOWS IT.
DO NOT USE @FedEx I REPEAT, DO NOT USE @FedExHelp unless you want to spend your day trying to chase down the driver who took a picture of your building, but never actually got out of the truck to deliver. The only way to get this picture is from the truck, not the front door.
From Trump to Ramaswamy: How Child Rape and Family Abuse Became the New GOP Playbook
This is the kind of attack ad that ends a politician's career. But I'm not talking about Amy Acton's career — I'm talking about Vivek Ramaswamy, who has proven himself to be an absolute bucket of piss, shit, and vomit.
While I expected desperate Republicans to reach new lows, Vivek Ramaswamy's recruitment of Amy Acton's estranged mother is beyond the pale. Ramaswamy's new attack ad is a level of vile degeneracy not even I anticipated.
For 48 years, Amy Acton has had no relationship with her mother. The most revealing aspect of this situation is that Ramaswamy had no qualms about approving a hit job from an estranged parent who chose to stay married to the pedophile who raped her daughter at age 12.
Before Acton's sexually abusive stepfather, Cledith Arthur, could stand trial, he fled the state and became a fugitive. He managed to evade justice for years, remaining on the run until his death in 2004.
ICE just locked up the man who feeds 8,000 Bronx neighbors a month, at his own immigration hearing. Now his food pantry is shut.🤬
Aleksander Nilaj, an Albanian immigrant who founded the Open Hand food pantry in the Bronx in 2012, showed up for his immigration hearing at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan. ICE agents detained him instead. He is now held at Delaney Hall, a detention center in Newark, New Jersey. https://t.co/9nqQ5aef8D
Explosive report claims Jared Kushner’s hacked phone showed money transfers to a warlord and hitman. It’s time to bring the Trump crime family down and prosecute every one of them. 🤬 https://t.co/QDXG6EHnNq
