@SantaCruzPolice I wonder who causes more accidents and fatalities in Santa Cruz, cars on the roads or bikes on the road? I'll give @SantaCruzPolice one guess. Imagine being this upset that cyclists are going to pack the roads, would you prefer a traffic jam of cars from 17 to the beach??
@SF311@JillianKozyra Lol imagine having the resources of the city at your disposal and your response is "just call the cops". Can't shoot your way out of a trash heap.
@Donovan_J19@RyanPittWX @MichaelWX18 You aren't interfering if there is no TFR, there is nothing to interfere with legally speaking. Is it the best idea? No. Is it illegal? Not unless firefighting aircraft are on the fire or a TFR has been requested and approved. After that, definitely illegal!
@DavidZipper Zero traffic injuries or deaths attributable to autonomous cars in California in the past year. Last data for 2021 shows that human drivers either killed themselves or others over 4,200 times that year. How are autonomous cars getting stuck in intersections such a big deal?
@mateosfo Tires are also questionable, the durability of EV-specific tires is pretty good these days. Could be better in the low end, but major brands have refined their compounds to be on par with ICE tires. However one could argue the manufacturing process of tires itself is quite bad.
@mateosfo Tires perhaps, brakes no. Teslas really only need brakes serviced every 100,000 miles if even, barely used during 90% of driving. Unless you're slamming on the brake pedal at stops needlessly, the brakes aren't even engaged. Almost all the braking is done by the motor(s).
@KaSyl_Town @Wonder_Jonboy @JoshSpears007 @JoePostingg @The_Suozz Speed limit ≠ safe speed. Safe speed through such a narrow street with a high potential for pedestrian interactions should be no more than 10mph or so. This is effectively a single lane road.
@sfstandard City cleanup workers should not have to expose themselves to burned carcinogenic materials, using a backhoe is a way to prevent work-exposure related cancers.
@jillreports@CityofVancouver Looks like the barrier did its job and prevented a potential vehicle vs bike or pedestrian crash. I hope this driver was given a sobriety test, because if you can't see that massive barrier, you probably shouldn't be driving a giant suv.
@nucleargoldmine @schwifty00 @CaltransD4 Imagine opening a 65 mph road without lane lines and being happy you finished early 😂 give it a few months and that "new" pavement will be cracked anyway.
@BillyM2k@KyungLahCNN@jasonkCNN@CNN Please show me evidence of SFPD being defunded? Funding has increased 4.4% since 2019. The last time police faced a budget cut of $120M, they em themselves admitted it did not result in a single officer leaving patrol. 5 seconds of googling would make you less of a clown.
@Nikolasnews1 @JackQuillin22 @DowntownLAScan If any other emergency service employee drove with no warning lights or sirens, at an extreme rate of speed on surface streets with pedestrian present, they'd be fired pretty much without exception if caught. Why add more danger to an already dangerous scenario?
@AdroitlyAbsurd @1Paul_A @AlexisCeule@lovesmangos@myriadphenomena Is is a private company or a city/county service? Either way best of luck with contesting the bill, definitely do not pay a cent given the circumstances! Hope you are ok after the crash...
@1Paul_A @AdroitlyAbsurd@AlexisCeule@lovesmangos@myriadphenomena While this is a an issue, the most profitable companies only manage 5-10% profit versus revenue. Even local fire departments have started to more aggressively bill for transport due to rising costs of virtually all aspects of healthcare. Not justifying the cost, just explaining !
@AlexisCeule@AdroitlyAbsurd@lovesmangos@myriadphenomena That being said it's usually very very hard to bill for these. And especially in this case, doubt the company will come after you for $150. But still, that should never deter you from calling 911 if you believe someone needs an ambulance :) these costs can be forgiven !
@AlexisCeule@AdroitlyAbsurd@lovesmangos@myriadphenomena I think this holds true for many areas, but at least in the US there are many agencies and companies enrolled in pilot programs for reimbursement through centers for Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS). In some of those pilot programs, "Good Samaritan" billing can still occur.
