56Secure seems to be plastered all over homes in Indiranagar!

I went for a walk last evening - counted upwards of 50 properties where I saw the 56Secure signboard

I wrote about their security (Tech + Ops) business last month - but it is surreal to see that business in action.

Last week, while I was visiting my friends who stay in the UK - I noticed each of their houses had a security system like Ring (an Amazon owned company)

The concept of home security is quite established in the West - mainly because it is cost prohibitive to have a security guard sitting outside your house (which btw, most of my neighbors in Gurgaon actually have)

💡However, the “property security” market in India is slowly starting to look like the ones in the West - moving from Ops (manpower) to Tech + Ops. Did a bit of research on this space:

(1) SIS Group (India) launched VProtect (2016)
- SIS is a listed entity started in 1985 which is one of the largest manpower agencies for property management services
- The group clocked ~ ₹11000 core in FY 22-23; and it has set a target to deliver 20% of earnings from Tech based solutions.
- In 2016, SIS launched VProtect which is its own range of security solutions such as camera, motion detection senor, siren system.
- VProtect (in India) was live at 1200 sites in 2021 w/ over 280 listed companies as customers

The value prop is iOps i.e. intelligence (via the VProtect technology) to Response / Ops (via the legacy SIS manpower business)

(2) Airtel launched its XSafe business (2022)
- I had written a long post about this business last week (attached in the next post)
- This is a pure Tech play versus a Tech + Ops play like SIS (I prefer the latter)

(3) Indian startup 56Secure has raised $10M
- It operates in BLR with ~10K subscribers; 70% are commercial units & 30% are residential units / shops
- They combine Tech (proprietary AI camera) + Ops (private security) to deliver security solutions
- Subscriptions range from ₹2K per month to ₹17K per month

🧠Fundamentally, security companies need to have the DNA to combine Hardware + Software + People Ops to deliver a complete solution.
- The best business to study in this segment is Flock Safety: they have commercial contracts with multiple law enforcement agencies in the USA - they help resolve 2.2K crime cases PER DAY

As the cost of security manpower rises (wage inflation ++ high churn segment), more property management companies are look to Tech + Ops security solutions (I’ve seen this with our family home in Mumbai too).

This is a $12bn market - across residential & commercial // on-site & incident response. It might be price sensitive but the shift from Ops to Tech + Ops makes it a good time to be building in this space!

In 2006, the Karnataka Police introduced a Geographic Information System (GIS) crime mapping analysis in Bangalore. This initiative aimed to pinpoint crime hotspots in the city, considering various factors such as the nature of the crime, modus operandi, and the specific time of day when these incidents occur.
