@TrippyPip My mum used to do this - she hated having carers so used to have me get her up, washed, dressed etc ( will spare you the details ) before they arrived and then just sit smiling at them as I went out to work. Eventually she got her own way and they stopped coming.
@iamtomskinner Well you can’t rely on trains for long journeys these days. To be honest it’s your choice and nothing to do with anyone else , I expect the cabbie was very happy with the fare .
@CyclingInASkirt The planners should have placed the pedestrian zone on the left, not sandwiched between the cycle lane and the road. I walk a lot with my grandson and always keep him as far from the traffic as possible. I think I would feel on edge walking there and having to watch both sides

Had email from Waterstones reminding me that “Spare” is published in 5 days. Searched their website for “watching paint dry” and “sticking rusty needles in my eyes” as suitable alternative titles, then stopped all future emails - I’d sooner never read again tbh.
