3. Leave your grass long to promote deeper root growth and better water retention.

As we approach the hottest part of summer residential water use skyrockets. According to @epagov, most of the water we use during the summer goes to outdoor uses like landscaping, and more than half of that water gets wasted due to evaporation, wind, or runoff from overwatering.
