The Hypocrisy of Evolving Constitutional Rhetoric
The 1987 Philippine Constitution stands as our nation's supreme safeguard for human dignity, explicitly guaranteeing that no person shall be deprived of life or liberty without due process of law.
Yet, during the Duterte administration's "War on Drugs," thousands of extrajudicial killings (EJKs) tore through our communities, laying bare a profound hypocrisy. Leaders and figures who loudly brandished themselves as champions of the Constitution—sworn to uphold and defend it—simultaneously championed a bloody campaign that completely bypassed the judicial system.
Claiming to protect the country while sanctioning the slaughter of the poor without trial makes a mockery of constitutional patriotism. True fidelity to the fundamental law of the land means upholding the rule of law for every citizen, because a constitution is only as strong as its protection of our most basic human rights.🇵🇭☮️
