Jordan Neely was murdered.
But bc Jordan was houseless and crying for food in a time when the city is raising rents and stripping services to militarize itself while many in power demonize the poor, the murderer gets protected w/ passive headlines + no charges.
It’s disgusting.
This honestly feels like a new low: not being able to clearly condemn a public murder because the victim was of a social status some would deem “too low” to care about.
The last sentence is especially rich from an admin trying to cut the very services that could have helped him.
In addition to occasionally racist messages suggesting Daniel Perry, the man Governor Greg Abbott wants to pardon, was fantasizing about shooting protesters, there are some where he is chatting with underage youth.
"No nudes until you're old enough," Perry wrote in one message.
@cenkuygur I was trying to express my love and appreciation for the company that gave me my start, and for my good friend Ana, within the context of a disagreement. This reaction is pretty shocking to me Cenk. Have a good one.
The idea of only fighting for an issue because it polls well is goddamn stupid. Forget women's rights, forget civil rights, forget gay rights; didn't poll well so why bother fighting for it.
@cenkuygur There is no context, medical or otherwise, in which Ana would be called a "birthing person" unless she actually plans on giving birth. It's really that simple. So, to borrow your language, what are she and you "crying" about? You're better than this.
@cenkuygur But yeah sure, fundamental human rights for the most vulnerable and exploited people in this country must seem pretty extreme to those it doesn't affect. Speaking sincerely.
@cenkuygur "Extremist" is nowhere near the correct word for believing in the things you listed, one of which is a misconstrued right wing talking point ("birthing people"). Police reforms don't work, and prisons are a hellish, barbaric, racist & inhuman practice that make crime even worse
Wow: Tennessee state Rep. Justin Jones, one of the Dems that the GOP is trying to expel from state legislature to protesting gun violence, calls out his colleagues on the floor
‘For years, one of your colleagues, an admitted child molester, sat in this chamber – no expulsion’
I have reinstalled Twitter to respond to this story and make sure my voice is fully heard. I am Casey.
My real name is Alex but my mom decided it would be best to hide it for anonymity. But this is my story, not hers. This is not the free press’s story.
JUST IN: A federal judge has just ORDERED Llano County Texas to return "all books" that were removed from their libraries due to their content or viewpoint.
Library patrons successfully argued that "content-based restrictions" were likely unconstitutional.
The Texas judge is also prohibiting the officials from removing any more books while a lawsuit remains pending.
The books that were banned included a book for teens that calls the Ku Klux Klan a terrorist group, Isabel Wilkerson’s “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” and a comedic children’s book with three stories from Dawn McMillan’s “I Need a New Butt!” series.
The decision could set wide reaching precedent in light of recent book banning in Florida, supported by Ron DeSantis.
What a great victory for books! 💙
Holy shit. Rep. Jamaal Bowman is directly calling out Republican members of Congress as they walk out of the Capitol building right now. We need to confront & expose every one of them. Make them answer. This is leadership and truly amazing.
