On Friday we reflected on what's working/not working in all aspects of our classroom. Today we came together to start problem solving based on the feedback. Thanks for the idea, @pernilleripp !
Encouraging critical thinking, listening to students' questions, and asking them for their theories allows us to teach directly to their own curiosities and misconceptions #inquiry#morningmeeting@responsiveclass
Yesterday we honored #September11th by discussing what makes someone a hero and reading about the heroism of the every day people on the John J. Harvey #fireboat. We all agreed, a hero is anyone who is kind and helps people
We all enjoyed looking back on our times at Coolidge and how much we've grown at the Memory Book Breakfast this morning. Big thanks to our 5th Grade Reps for putting together such a special memento and event!
For one of our last #MorningMeeting s today, everyone got to write a message! We enjoyed seeing everyone's creativity and enthusiasm on our gallery walk. Thanks to @MrsAuxter for the fabulous idea!
In science, we have been collaborating as a class over several days to construct a food web of our local ecosystem. Students each researched an organism in order to properly place it and find all of its connections
The 5th Grade Writing Celebration today was an excellent chance for students, teachers, and parents to celebrate an entire year of growth as writers. Students especially loved reading and praising each others pieces
Thank you, families, for making our Writing Celebration special! Itβs always a treat to see how far our writers have come throughout the year. Check out our βLift a Lineβ board for some meaningful quotes readers captured!
Today we learned to propagate one of our class plants to apply what we have learned about how plants get the nutrients they need to survive and grow. Each student's cutting will sprout roots before we know it, and will be ready to take home before the end of the year! #NGSS
We have been working on a Social Studies mini-unit on Slavery in Colonial America, digging into a variety of primary sources to try to answer as many of our research questions as we can
The last thing we did to prepare for state testing was to write each other notes of encouragement to be distributed tomorrow morning. Hoping each author takes their own words to heart as well! #buildingcommunity#studentshelpingstudents
Kirsten and Ava's #MorningMeeting was an engaging way to kick off our Friday! We were all also impressed by their excellent teamwork and time management skills @MrsAuxter
Based on student proposals we gathered supplies, split into groups, and got to work! S's planted in the courtyard, designed signs and took them on a march in and around the school, wrote letters to local businesses, & planned presentations for other classes and the entire school!
Planting wildflower seeds in our courtyard flowerbeds to attract pollinators. We took time to learn more about the plants (and worms) that are already there before loosening the soil and digging in! Special thanks to @AnnieMapes for stopping by to lend a hand
