Work has started on the Porter House at Lobuche! The team is hard at work starting construction. At 5,000m it’s hard work because of the altitude, but the team are determined to create this new fit-for-purpose house for the Everest heroes - the Porters.

One porter said: “Due to poor and insufficient infrastructure here at Lobuche we have been suffering for many years, and now we have got the support of @nimsdai and @nimsdaiFNDN and they are building a porter house here.” He said from next season the porters are looking forward to services at the new building including ‘good food, hot water and a warm place to sleep.’

This is Nives Meroi, a 63-year-old Italian alpinist.

She has summited all 14 peaks over 8,000 meters (including Manaslu RP) without supplemental oxygen.

In 2023, at the age of 61, she summited 7,318m Kabru South via a new route (West Face). This weekend, she made the first ascent of the West Face of 7,412m Kabru (new route).
She climbed without bottled oxygen or fixed ropes.

In 2024, she was awarded the Piolet d'Or Special Mention for Female Mountaineering.

I highly recommend these three books written by Victor Saunders.
Humour, exciting stories and funny anecdotes, and a way of understanding mountaineering that will make you love alpinism in its purest essence. No ego-centred heroic attitude, no record lists.
For me, these climbers, same as Ivano Ghirardini and Voytek Kurtyka, are some of the most authentic mountaineers of the 20th century.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Nepalese government for their steadfast commitment to truth and the safety of our mountain communities. I have been provided with the formal letter recognising the effort from myself and fellow climbers in keeping the mountain safe and transparent regarding the rope cutting incident on Everest.

I am also extremely grateful to all the fellow climbers for supporting the truth including prominent climbers such as Sanu Sherpa (2 x 14 peaks climber).

Such support from the Government for professionals as myself and the thousands of guides and climbers who put our lives at risks in these challenging environments is indispensable.
