In the car scene, Nikki literally asks him about his feelings. Had he said "yes," none of this film might have happened. No deaths. No horror. No purgatory.

That's why "Obsession" is scarier than it looks. The monster here isn't the magic.

It's the shortcut taken instead of honesty. A man who chose control over a conversation — and destroyed the very thing he could've had by simply telling the truth.
