“I haven’t taken a dime from AIPAC” doesn’t address the criticism.

No one claims AIPAC wrote Sullivan a $370,630 check.

The issue is the $370,630 her campaign received from individual donors also supporting AIPAC and aligned groups.

“Unrig the system” is quite a pitch from a hybrid PAC that financially backs Maura Sullivan and operates a joint fundraising committee with House Democratic leadership.

Apparently the plan is to unrig the system from inside the machine that rigged it.

“Refusing to return” is an interesting choice of words.

Shaheen didn’t return the contributions identified on her side either. She donated an equivalent amount elsewhere.

If returning the money is the standard for Sullivan, that standard should apply to Shaheen too.

Shaheen faces criticism that her candidacy rests on family and inherited political identity. “My family has been here for generations and I was born here” doesn’t rebut it. It reinforces it.

If a candidate claims six years “in the Obama Administration,” voters deserve to know what those six years consisted of.
