613-819 Black Hub Ottawa election candidate voting recommendations/Recommandations de vote pour les candidats à l'élection du Hub Noir
https://t.co/CwoCal4ydX
🧵 From 2001 to 2022 the @OttawaPolice budget grew from $135 million to $385 million. This is an increase of $250 million or a 185% increase (nearly tripled). The proportional police share of the total City budget has increased from 7.7% to 9.3%. 1/7
We joined @613_819 and others in calling on @ottawacity to remove @OttawaPolice from the group deciding where the re-allocated funds from the cut to the police budget increase goes.
Community should decide where community funds go.

Listen to my interview on the @The_Fulcrum Radio Show with Robin Browne of @613_819 who breaks it all down on #UnpublishedOttawa https://t.co/HJ9WKbQjcX
@RobinBrowne@613_819@SamHersh01 Erin from @OCTEVAW: Impact of the past several weeks have been terrible for service providers in the core. For example, Cornerstone. Residents faced extreme harrassments. Some of the women there are Indigenous women, and there's a particular trauma around trucks and MMIW.
.@robinbrowne of @613_819: Worried that some progress made with previous board may be lost. For example, the use of force study may be shelved by the new more police friendly board. So we won't have the data about use of force being used more against Black and Brown people
From @robinbrowne of @613_819: Totally expect that the police will be asking for more money. No matter what happens they ask for more money. They kill someone? They ask for money for training.
@RobinBrowne@613_819 .@SamHersh01: None of us here, at @HorizonOttawa, were fans of Chief Sloly, but saw that he was scape-goated. Once he was gone, they completely changed the narrative of what happened.
@HorizonOttawa@RobinBrowne@613_819@SamHersh01 Hi Robin. With respect, what was wrong w Peter? He was brought in for race relations, but they wanted him to be a puppet. When he began to refuse the pale boys’ club, he was IGNOREd then, dumped.
.@robinbrowne of @613_819: Total budget of the Ottawa city anti-racism strategy is $100,000; budget for police dry cleaning is more than $400,000! Need to have this meeting Monday so we can address this ridiculous situation.
We will be holding a press conference tomorrow along with @asilucollective, @613_819 and @OCTEVAW to and others to demand @Eli_ElChantiry reverse his decision and let delegates speak this Monday and for measures to hold #ottcity and police accountable:
