— I hope you’re planning to eat, Potter, and that I didn’t learn culinary spells and did all cooking for nothing. Because if I have to reheat it, it’ll taste like Hagrid’s rock cakes, — said Drakaena, greeting Harry as he returned late at evening from work in Ministry. (1/8)
"Show, don't tell" is something that applies to screenplays more than it does to books. Anything you describe in a screenplay has to be something a camera can film or an animator can animate. Books don't have this limitation.
That said, even in a book, if it's possible to convey an idea through actions, that's how you should do it, more often than not. Instead of saying "he was angry," demonstrate it though that character's behavior.
If it's not possible to convey an idea through actions, then don't. You're allowed to just say the aliens arrived thirty years ago without having a flashback to Bill Clinton looking out the window of the Oval Office and saying, "Hey Monica, look!"
I gave into the month.
