For his conspicuous gallantry, tactical brilliance, and disregard to personal safety, he was awarded the Vir Chakra.

Navaratri is a ‘Hindu’ festival celebrated for a variety of reasons that include Devi traya (Sarasvati, Lakshmi, Parvati/Durga), Sundara Kanda Patanam, Temple Utsavams etc. Its religious nature cannot be taken away. Yes, as always, Hindu festivals imbibe musical, dance and cuisine elements in them. I am sure the society in general likes and wants to partake in them. Nothing wrong. But if they believe that our worship of devata murtis is wrong, our scriptures are demoniac, and our practices are to be abhorred, then what is wrong in telling them not to join us in our celebrations? Abusing a religion and enjoying their religious festivals can’t go hand in hand. On one hand, journalists say ‘National Song celebrates Durga, and imposing that, will make religious minorities uncomfortable’ and on the other, they say, ‘Hindu festivals are meant for all.’ Don’t they realise that it is the same Durga here in the festivals as well?

6 terrorists were hiding in a house in a village in Kashmir. Soldiers surrounded it.

One man positioned himself at the spot they would run for, so none of them could get out.

He was 31, from a village in Bihar, and he was not from the army. He was from the Air Force.

His name was Jyoti Prakash Nirala.

He was born on 15th November 1986 in Badladih, in Rohtas district in Bihar, into an ordinary family. He joined the Indian Air Force in 2005 at 18.

Most people do not know the Air Force has commandos. It does. They are called the Garud Commando Force, raised in 2003, and it is the youngest special forces unit in the country. The selection and training is brutal and takes years.

He got in.

On 18th November 2017, in Chanderger village in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, intelligence reported 6 Lashkar e Taiba terrorists hiding in a house.

Among them was Osama Jungi, the nephew of Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi, and another man who was the group's commander for north Kashmir.

A Garud detachment went in with the 13th Battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles and set a close quarter ambush around the house.

Nirala took the most exposed position. He placed himself right at the approach to the hideout, to close off the only escape route.

His citation makes a point of this. Laying an ambush at such close quarters, it says, demanded a very high degree of courage and professional acumen.

He was, in plain terms, the man standing in the doorway.

The 6 came out at once, firing and throwing grenades.

Nirala shot 2 of them dead, including Jungi, and wounded 2 more.

Then he was hit. Not by a single bullet. The citation says a barrage.

He kept firing.

He carried on engaging the remaining terrorists while critically wounded, and he held that position until he could not any more. He died of his wounds.

All 6 terrorists were killed in that operation. It is regarded as one of the heaviest blows dealt to that organisation in Kashmir in those years.

3 days later he would have turned 31. He had been married since 2010.

On 26th January 2018 the President of India presented the Ashok Chakra to his widow at the Republic Day parade.

The Ashok Chakra is the highest award India gives for bravery in peacetime. It is the equal of the Param Vir Chakra.

He was only the 3rd person in the history of the Indian Air Force to receive it, and the first Air Force man ever to be given a gallantry award for fighting on the ground.

He was a Corporal. Not an officer.

He was the man who made sure nobody got out of that house.

A lesser known but a heroic stand nothing short of C Company, 13 Kumaon at Rezang La. Let me repeat this once again - We need to revisit 1962 war. There are many acts of superhuman courage and bravery and sheer willpower which have gone unrewarded and unrecognized. We owe this to the gallant soldiers who many a times made final stand knowing very well that they will not come out alive.

Senthilkumar of Madras High Court holding that the sale of 3.3 acres of land was illegal - (30 years ago and now valued at Rs.110.00 Crores) of Sri Annamalainathar Temple, Kadayanallur village Tenkasi has been upheld by Hon'ble Supreme Court of India.

Shocking details revealed regarding Srirangam temple land!
For 50 years, the TN Govt hospital has occupied temple land without paying any rent at all leading to a loss of not less that ₹12 CRORE.

Complete collusion and failure by @tnhrcedept and the TN Govt to protect temple assets. Temple property must be recovered from TN Government and arrears of rent recovered with interest!

but this ruling lays down principles for ALL Hindu temples in TN under @tnhrcedept. 🧵

1️⃣ NO MORE @tnhrcedept Executive Officer DOUBLING AS "FIT PERSON" IN TEMPLES AS A ROUTINE POSTING!

The Court held an Executive Officer can act as "Fit Person" only in exceptional circumstances, for a very brief interim duration. Temple administration must vest in the Board of Trustees — not remain permanently with a government official wearing two hats. Such dual-role arrangements "ought to be terminated at the earliest."

2️⃣ EOs HAVE NO SAY IN RELIGIOUS MATTERS —

This is a superb victory for Hindus !
Under the proviso to Sec.45(2), HR&CE Act, the word "only" is significant: an EO's power is confined STRICTLY to temple properties (movable & immovable, incl. income).

"An area even slightly tinged with religious elements is a no-go zone for the Executive Officer" — pujas, Kumbhabishekam dates/timings, customs & traditions cannot be touched by EOs.

3. The Govt's Learned Addl. Advocate General fairly conceded that trustees will be appointed for Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Temple within 6 months.
Government has also called for applications from Hindus to be appointed as Trustees. A positive move by Hon'ble Minister @RameshOffcl

Finally, the Fraudulent set up of @tnhrcedept 's illegally appointed Executive Officer - also serving as the Sole Trustee (Fit Person) of the temple for more than 40 years comes to an END.

A real step towards temples run by Trustees, not bureaucrats — and the State kept out of religious affairs. 🙏
